Composer Spotlights Latest News
Frank J. Oteri

A renowned music journalist and new music advocate, Mr. Oteri's compositions range from full-evening stage works to chamber and solo compositions. Employing alternative tuning systems and microtonality, Frank combines emotional directness with an obsession for formal processes and incorporates styles of music as seemingly-unrelated as minimalism, serialism, Broadway and bluegrass.

Elena Ruehr

Elena’s rhythmically vital music has been described as “sumptuously scored and full of soaring melodies” (New York Times), and “unspeakably gorgeous” (Gramophone). Her recordings include her opera, Toussaint Before the Spirits (Arsis Records), How She Danced: String Quartets of Elena Ruehr, Averno, Jane Wang considers the Dragonfly, and Shimmer.

Joel Phillip Friedman

With the spirit of collaboration at the core of his musical activities, Mr. Friedman most recently produced the score for independent horror film, Red Ice. Other endeavors have yielded full-length musicals and chamber operas, as well as more intimate chamber and wind ensemble pieces. His works typically combine a musical style rooted in jazz and rock with contemporary compositional techniques.

Adam Wernick

An emotional intensity and accessibility reflect the theatrical roots of Mr. Wernick's growing body of chamber works. Now residing in St. Paul, Minnesota, Adam worked for many years in Philadelphia writing original music for theatrical productions at the Wilma Theater and Walnut Street Theatre. His works have also premiered at the Shakespeare Theatre in Washington, D.C.
